CommuniCare Health Centers is a federally qualified health center providing comprehensive patient-centered primary care services including medical, dental, perinatal care, substance abuse treatment, behavioral health and outreach services to low income, multi-ethnic, uninsured and underinsured populations.
The Pediatrician works with a team of health care staff to provide outpatient pediatric care and inpatient care for newborns. The Pediatrician works as a part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic manager, practitioners (including midlevel providers), nurses, medical assistants and health workers to provide comprehensive care.
Full time/40 hours per week. Includes outpatient clinic care at Hansen Family Health Center (Woodland, CA), Davis Community Clinic (Davis, CA) and/or Salud Clinic (West Sacramento, CA). Includes inpatient hospital coverage (newborns) and may include evening and weekend hours.
Serve as primary physician to a panel of pediatric patients. Patients (aged newborn to 18 years) may present a wide variety of health problems requiring diagnosis and the selection and management of appropriate care. Such care would include, as necessary, admission to institutional care (primarily Sutter Davis Hospital newborn nursery), referral to specialists, and the coordination of these and other types of care.
Provide inpatient newborn care at a Baby-Friendly Level I Hospital-based Birthing Center: oversee and support Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistant Newborn Providers and co-sign charts. Provide care for newborns requiring higher level of care – including nursery. Resuscitate and stabilize sick newborns; transfer to NICU when necessary.
Coordinate and direct appropriate care by means of initial diagnosis and treatment, obtaining second opinions as necessary, consultation with referral specialists and follow?up of care, medication regimen and special treatment within the framework of integrated continuous care.
Coordinate care and consult with family practice physicians and mid-level providers regarding pediatric issues or concerns.
Provide clinical supervision of Nurse Practitioner and Physician assistant staff in the care of pediatric patients assigned to the clinics and the CommuniCare newborn program. Assist with training, supervising and evaluating clinic staff.
Participate in the CommuniCare Health Centers utilization review process.
Participate in the established quality assurance program and collaborate on quality improvement activities.
Perform administrative tasks required by clinic licensure, hospital privileges, and funding agencies.
Attend meetings and perform other duties and projects as needed.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, successful completion of a three-year accredited residency program, current California licensed, Board certified in Pediatrics.
Experience: Demonstrated commitment to high quality health care for low income populations. Demonstrated commitment to controlling outpatient and inpatient specialty and procedure costs. At least three years working in active hospital-related practice and outpatient practice.
Special Skills/Equipment: Bilingual Spanish or Russian preferred. Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the clinic practice including the principles of growth and development for newborns, children and adolescents (0-18). Ability to assess data/information pertaining to patients’ age-specific needs. Ability to operate all clinical equipment. Effective communication skills and ability to encourage patient understanding of prevention practices and early diagnostic services. A valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and personal transportation are required. Current certification in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required. Experience using electronic health records and ability to use or learn to use eClinicalWorks. Eligible to receive inpatient hospital privileges. Current CPR and NRP certification required.
