An employee working as a Dentist with the McCloud Healthcare Clinic, Inc., provides quality, compassionate preventative and restorative general dentistry services in a fast-paced environment.
Provides emergency care for treatment of acute conditions (i.e. abscesses).
Provides diagnostic examinations of patients’ teeth, gums and related parts of the mouth.
After evaluating a patient’s health history, x-rays, and oral examination/cancer screen/periodontal assessment, develops a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses the patient's emergent needs as well as any needed follow-up services.
Discusses findings of a patient’s dental examination with the patient, including information about treatment options.
For patients with a chronic disease, gives treatment plan information to the patient’s primary care provider and obtains medical clearance for treatment; records and tracks this information.
Refers patients to specialists when required for procedures and care beyond the scope of the Clinic’s offered services.
Provides satisfactory and timely clinical treatments, practicing to the full extent of licensing, including: restorative (amalgams and composites), root canals (anterior and premolars), crowns, extractions (simple and surgical), bridges, partials and dentures.
Performs or supervises dental and oral health care prevention and maintenance services like teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments and cavity fillings. May treat diseases of nerve pulp and other dental tissues affecting oral hygiene and retention of teeth.
Offers patients oral hygiene education and instruction in conjunction with the Clinic’s hygienist and dental assistant, including taking care of teeth and gums, and dietary choices that affect oral health.
Maintain a professional attitude towards patients in and out of the Clinic.
Leads dental staff in patient care; trains and manages staff.
With assistance from dental staff, maintains patients' dental records, including documents related to patient history, clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment/s performed, and the prognosis. May include written notes, radiographs, study models, referral letters, consultants’ reports, clinical photographs, results of special investigations, drug prescriptions, laboratory prescriptions, patient identification information, and a comprehensive medical history.
Attends Clinic provider meetings, collaborates with Medical Clinic providers and staff as needed to integrate medical, behavioral health and social services when called for.
May represent the Dental Clinic at community events. Assists in the development of collaborative partnerships with other dental providers and agencies as needed.
Assures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing the practice of dentistry.
Helps maintain needed stock of supplies and equipment.

This job operates in a professional dental clinic environment with potential exposure to blood and body fluids and other hazardous substances. This role requires the handling of sharp instruments including needles and surgical tools, as well as sterilization equipment.
No travel is expected for regular job duties. Travel may occasionally be required for training purposes. If personal vehicle is used for specified job-related errands or travel to/from training events, mileage will be reimbursed as specified in the Employee Handbook.
Education, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
Has a DDS/DMD degree from a recognized dental school.
Has a current license with the Dental Board of California.
Stays current with continuing education requirements for licensing. Ideally is motivated to keep abreast of new developments in dentistry through professional development beyond CE requirements.
Is well-versed in all phases of general dentistry; 3-5 years’ experience in a dental clinic setting is preferred.
Can effectively initiate and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinic setting.
Is able to work positively with diverse populations of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, providing needed dental care to children, teens and adults.
Ideally will have a passion for serving the underserved and be able to work as a team player in building a strong practice.
Is able to work in collaboration with other health care professionals and agencies as needed.
Has basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to become certified.
Skills and Competencies:
Verbal and written communication proficiency, ethical conduct, flexibility, initiative, ability to multi-task, time management, highly organized, detail orientated. Customer services skills, sensitivity to client needs, remains calm in emergency situations, upholds strict confidentially requirements. Familiarity with computer processes, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
